After talking about it for ages, Maxband began when Brooklyn musicians and longtime friends Max Savage (Parquet Courts), Patrick Smith (A Beacon School), Tim Nelson and Eric Read decided it was finally time to start making music together. Mannequin Pussy is classified commonly as pop-punk, but I really do think that, on Romantic at least, they tend to one or the other; that is, they either go full pop, or full punk, and rarely ever for that quintessential "pop-punk" sound. My favorite track, "Pledge", whiplashes between pleasing acoustic guitar-led passages and intense punk screams.
